My new bosom buddy

When it came to finding the right bra fit, I figured I was fine because I’d been fitted by certain employees at a certain popular lingerie chain before.

But since meeting with my new bosom buddy Courtney Killpack, a certified bra fit specialist, I’m convinced I’ve never worn the right size of bra my entire life.

Courtney had me fill out a quick questionnaire before we met, then when we got together, she had a variety of bras pulled out for me. We tried them on one by one, and slowly my eyes were opened to the world of bras that actually fit correctly and comfortably.

I happily picked one out (although I wanted to buy all of them), and walked out of the dressing room feeling like a new woman. Here’s the bra I picked:

Fun, huh? It was about time I switched out my boring nude bras for one with more personality.

Courtney shared a few tips with me that I’ve been excited to share with my fellow ladies:

  1. Your true bra size might surprise you. As your band size goes down, your cup size goes up. I never would have guessed I was a 30D. I didn’t even know that size existed! But it feels so good to wear something that I’m not constantly pulling on to readjust.
  2. Take good care of your bras. Always use a lingerie bag to wash your bras. Fasten the straps, put them in cold water with a gentle or lingerie-specific detergent and let them air dry. They’ll last longer and hold their shape better!
  3. Try something different. Courtney had me try on an unlined, lacy bra that I never would have picked off the rack myself. I assumed if I wore one I’d be walking around with (ahem) “RT” all day and I wouldn’t like how thin it was. But it was so comfortable, and Courtney said RT is surprisingly not an issue with that kind of bra. She also commented how she loves them because they are just real and give her a natural shape—her own! I’m a new fan of unlined bras.
  4. News flash for LDS women! I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and we wear special white undergarments to remind us of the covenants we make in the temple and to promote modesty. I’ve always worn my bra over my garments, which affected the fit of my bras and made colored or patterned bras look funny and out-of-place. Courtney clued me in to the Church’s policy-change that you can wear your garments over the top of your bras. I have been doing that ever since our appointment and it has made a world of difference. It’s amazing how much it’s done to help me feel like a woman!

I hope you schedule an appointment with Courtney (or another bra expert, if you’re not in Utah). It really is life-changing and empowering to wear bras that fit and make you feel sexy!

Happy bra hunting!
