My Summer 2018 reading list

June may be almost over, but I’m just crazy enough to think I can somehow still get through 12 books before summer turns to fall. It’s hilarious, really, seeing how we don’t have any kid-free vacations on the horizon and our kids are all home from school and still young enough to want to be entertained every hour of every day. Well, a girl can dream. Here are my picks!

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I already love the story and the movie, and it’s about time I read the book! I’m reading this one with Delicious Reads.

My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton. Another one in the Delicious Reads lineup. The authors parody the Janes of classic literature, and I’ve heard this series is hilarious.

The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. I’ve loved Kate Morton for a long time. The Forgotten Garden is in my top five. I’m reading this one with my neighborhood book club and can’t wait!

Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber. Caraval book was magical and such a fun beach read. The ending definitely left me wanting more, so I can’t wait to read this sequel. Plus, rumor has it that it’ll be a movie at some point!

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. I’ve heard small great things about this one.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. I loved “meeting” Rachel on Awesome with Alison, and this seems like a fun, upbeat, motivational read. I’m excited to finally understand what the title means.

Educated by Tara Westover. The true story of a girl who is part of a survivalist family and kept away from school. She goes on to earn a Phd from Cambridge. I can’t count how many times this one has been recommended to me.

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. J.K. Rowling says the narrator is one of the most charismatic she’s ever met, so…

The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz. A simple handbook for being a good human and finding peace with yourself.

Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. A charming story about newfound love in a tiny English village. This one has been calling to me for awhile.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. When my librarian said all the girls go crazy over this one, I knew I had to have it. I needed a fun romance on my list and this seems like the perfect one for summer! Especially since the movie comes out on Netflix this August.

How We Work: Live Your Purpose, Reclaim Your Sanity, and Embrace the Daily Grind by Leah Weiss. Mindfulness and meditation for modern moms. I heard about this during my friend Rachel’s podcast interview with Leah on 3 in 30, and knew I had to hear more. It’ll be great prep for my talk about mindfulness at SALT retreat this September.
