Winter reading list

I love a book that makes me want to curl up with it by the fire and watch the snow fall outside my window. Here are a few of my cozy Christmas favorites with wintry scenes.

BOOKS

For me:

This is such a fun read by one of the best young adult writers. My creative writing teacher introduced her to me and I’ve loved her fun writing voice ever since.

I have loved the Wynona Ryder my whole life and my sisters and I watched it together every Christmas. This is my first time reading the book and I absolutely love it. I want to raise my girls like Marmee did and adopt all of Louisa May Alcott’s wisdom. And also go ice skating with Laurie. 🙂

Reading (and watching) this makes me want to hop right into the magical land of Narnia and eat some fresh turkish delight.

This is one of my favorite novels of all time and makes for the perfect lighthearted winter (or anytime) read.

For the kiddos:

Jan Brett is one of my all-time favorite children’s book authors. Ellie’s first preschool teacher introduced us to them. I love how the illustrations on the sides of the pages foreshadow what is going to happen on the next page.

“Bunny Christmas” gives me all the happy Christmas feelings when I read it. I love the words and the pretty, Christmas illustrations of family Christmas traditions. Also, this one is special to us because it’s by local author Rick Walton, who I became friends with when I took his picture book class at BYU.

I have an Ellie, so we especially love this one. It was a serendipitous find on the clearance table at Barnes and Noble. I had a changing-pictures Christmas book when I was little, and this reminds me of it.

These cute classic versions of famous Christmas stories are just the right size for December bedtime stories.

This is such a fun book about what snowmen do at night when everyone else is asleep. I love that their moms make them iced cocoa instead of hot cocoa and that you can find hidden pictures on the pages.

This classic always brings back happy childhood Christmas memories when I read it. It’s a must for every home. The movie will never be as magical as this book!

This list is a work in progress, so please tell me some of your favorites! I’m especially looking for more picture books with pretty Christmas scenes. When it comes to picture books, it’s all about the illustrations for me. I’d also love to hear about some feel-good wintry novels you enjoy.
