7 Christmas books to add to your family collection

I was invited by Studio 5 to share my all-time favorite Christmas picture books. It was hard for me to narrow down my list, but I have found the best (in my opinion) seven Christmas books that are a must for your family collection.

1. Red and Lulu by Matt Tavares

A beautiful tale of two birds who get separated when their pine tree home is relocated to the heart of New York City, and how they find each other again. The birds-eye views of New York at Christmastime in this book are enchanting.

2. Pick a Pine Tree by Patricia Toht and Jarvis

A simple story about how a tree goes from a plain pine tree to a Christmas tree. My kids always let out an “Oooh!” when we turn to the last page to see the Christmas tree all lit up.

3. Snow Sisters by Kerri Kokias and Teagan White

A new book about two sisters who enjoy winter in their own unique ways. I especially relate to the one who chooses to curl up inside with a book and a cup of cocoa instead of braving the cold. This book is charming and would be especially fun for sisters.

4. Last Stop on the Reindeer Express by Maudie Powell-Tuck and Karl James Mountford

The touching story about a little girl who wishes her grandpa wasn’t so far away at Christmastime. The story and illustrations really capture he magic of a childhood Christmas, and is a heartwarming story for anyone who can’t be with their loved ones on Christmas Day.

5. Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner and Christopher Silas Neal

A delightful tale of the secret kingdom of animals that lies under the snow each winter. In the back, there is a glossary of animals and what they do in the wintertime. My kids are fascinated by it and I learned a few new things from it too.

6. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol illustrated by Yelena Bryksenknova

I cannot rave enough about the enchanting and haunting artwork in this book. I love that it’s the classic Charles Dickens story, and the illustrations feel true to the words and vibe of the classic English story. Chronicle Books does it again.

7. Mice Skating by Annie Silvestro and Teagan White

A magically illustrated story about a winter-loving mouse who braves the snow while everyone else is nestled underground. Will she be able to convince her friends how fun winter can be? Also, the cozy illustrations and cheese puns are on point.
