I believe all children are gifted creative writers.

Sometimes, they just need a little encouragement to believe it. In this age of digital distraction and endless noise, helping your child slow down and tune in to their own voice and imagination will serve them in endless ways now and throughout their lives. Social psychologist Dr. James Pennebaker found that consistent expressive writing can help heal trauma, decrease stress and anxiety, and even improve physical well-being.

Unleash your child’s writing potential

Write For Life is an online, 8-week creative writing course designed for kids 7-14, though accessible to the whole family. You’ll get creative writing video lessons, writing prompts and exercises, and reading lists. Feedback is essential to helping writers progress, so your child will also have the opportunity to submit their work to me through our private Google Classroom or directly to my email for constructive feedback for the duration of the course. I’ll also be available to answer their questions along the way.

In Write for Life, we’ll explore an introduction to creative writing through creative nonfiction, fiction, tips for settings, plot, and character, and building a writing life beyond the course. Write for Life is a personalized, positive teaching environment for your child, where grammar and technicalities take a backseat to unleashing our imaginations and having fun with writing.

My goal is to instill in your child a lifelong confidence in and love for writing and give them the tools they need to reach their potential as a writer.

I’m passionate about helping young writers succeed.

In 2nd grade, my teacher, Miss Lewis, told me I was a gifted writer. Even after I moved out of her class and on to 3rd grade, she gave me a notebook and pen and encouraged me to keep writing, to bring my stories back to her. She read them and made notes on them. She instilled in me a confidence that has never left me. I’ve worked professionally as a writer for the past 15 years.

Kids are so impressionable. The confidence they gain now in the things they want to do will serve them forever. I want to do what Miss Lewis did for me and show kids they are gifted writers.

My love for writing has led me to Lesley University, where I’m a graduate student earning my master’s degree in creative writing. I’ve worked as a journalist, book blurb writer, audiobook narrator, and professional namer. I also co-owned a prompted journal company, where I created prompted journals and educated people on the power and science behind writing for well-being. I’m currently working on my third novel and give my best reading recommendations at Talk Wordy to Me. I can’t wait to share my passion for reading and writing with your family.

What customers are saying

"Holly really enjoyed her time in Kim’s class! It was inspiring for her to focus with a great leader like Kim and other fellow writers in her age category. After sharing her story with Kim, she mentioned Holly’s talent with dialogue. The specific feedback Holly received was so helpful!"

-Charlene P.

"We have looked for something like this to develop our son's creative interests but there hasn't been anything. We are so grateful Kim has filled this space and has lit his fire to continue to read, write, and imagine."

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages is the course designed for?
While I designed the course with kids 7-14 in mind, I encourage adults to take the course, too! Younger kids who are passionate about writing will benefit from this course as well, they may just need some parental guidance.
Can I give the course as a gift?
Yes! Simply enter the recipient’s name and email address at checkout, and they’re signed up. If you want to give them the course later, purchase it under your name, then email me with your recipient’s information and we’ll get them taken care of.
How does my child receive feedback for their work during the course?
You’ll receive the link to a private Google Classroom where your child will have opportunities to submit their brainstorming and writing. You’ll receive a heads up in your course emails when these optional assignments are “due.” You (and your child) are welcome to email me anytime with any other questions you have along the way.
Is this course for beginner, intermediate, or advanced writers?
Yes! I’ve designed the course to appeal to and stimulate the creative brains of writers at any level. The pre-recorded nature of the course allows your child to take it at their own pace.
